Root Canal Treatment

Root canal therapy is used when a crack or cavity has been left untreated long enough for bacteria to reach the tooth’s inner core. During this procedure, Dr. Zahir Billy uses specialized dental instruments to remove infected and decayed tissue from the tooth pulp—the innermost part of the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. By eliminating the infection, root canal treatment relieves pain and helps save the natural tooth from extraction.
Dr. Billy prioritizes your comfort throughout the process. A local anesthetic will numb the affected area to ensure a painless experience. Our team will keep you informed and comfortable every step of the way.
Treatment Steps:- A small opening is made in the tooth’s crown.- The infected pulp is carefully removed.- The root canals are thoroughly cleaned and sterilized.- The canals are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha.- A temporary filling is placed to protect the tooth.- Once your custom crown is ready, you will return to our office for its placement, restoring your tooth’s strength and natural appearance.
Aftercare Following Root Canal Treatment- In the days after your procedure, it’s important to care for your mouth gently to reduce swelling and promote healing. Your treated tooth and gums may feel sensitive, so here are some tips to support your recovery:- Choose Soft Foods: Eat foods that require minimal chewing, like scrambled eggs, yogurt, or smoothies.- Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Stay away from very hot or cold foods and drinks, which can cause discomfort.- Avoid Chewy or Sticky Foods: These can dislodge your temporary filling or crown. Avoid chewing gum as well.- Skip Hard Foods: Foods like apples, ice, candy, and raw carrots may damage the treated tooth.- Avoid Spicy Foods: They can irritate sensitive tissues during healing.- Refrain from Alcohol: Alcohol may increase bleeding and delay healing.
If you’re unsure what to eat, here are some meal ideas:- Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, yogurt, or a smoothie- Snacks: Ripe, canned, cooked, or soft fruits- Dinner: Mashed vegetables, meatloaf, pasta, noodles, or lukewarm vegetable soup- Dessert: Sorbet or frozen yogurt
By following these guidelines and choosing foods wisely, you’ll support healing and help ensure a smooth recovery after your root canal treatment.
